Herstory Summit 2022

Celebrating the story of the girl child

“No child is ever too young to make a difference and offer her quota to the world and collectively we can make the changes we seek.” HerStorySummit2022

HerStory Summit 2022 was hosted by Nigeria Reads at Harrow park Wuse 2 on the 13th of August 2022.

At HerStory Summit, Girls from all diverse backgrounds work closely together with their peers to celebrate their stories, share their experiences and learn from one another as they seek to improve their communities and the world at large via advocacy, public speaking, and confidence building. HerStory summit is a daylong event, where GLOW Club* members from all over Nigeria come together to celebrate their strengths and explore the positive impact they can have in their communities in the most exciting and fun way.

The focus of this year’s Story Summit was on celebrating the story of the girl child. It was incredible to see how the girls orchestrated the entire summit. The girls’ leadership were exemplary. Among the many impeccable things the girls did, were writing letters to the future, learning to persevere in the face of adversity, and understanding the concept of leadership.

Ms. Juliana Anosike, FES Nigeria’s Program Coordinator, praised the girls for their efforts and emphasized that whenever we are to tackle problems relating to the girl child they should be brought to the table to find solutions together and also be given opportunities to speak and by so doing, amplify their voices.

According to Mr. Aliyu, Senior Legislative Aid (SLA) to Senator (Prof) Nora Daduut representing Plateau South, a community is driven by the development of the girl child; when a girl receives an education, she gives birth not only to the best children in the community, but also to young people who will carry on her legacy.

According to Mentor Peace, a facilitator at the event, she noted that the dreams and aspirations the girl child has is valid; we are significant; we are valuable; we are deserving of the chance to shine brightly; and we should be given that chance.
